The first application period runs from February 18 to March 18, 2025.
Candidates submit their application for enrollment via the electronic application on the web portal eVŠ.
Further information is available at https://moja.um.si/bodoci-studentje/Strani/postopek-vpisa.aspx.
In line with the enrollment timetable, candidates admitted in the first round will be enrolled from July 23 to August 16, 2024. The Faculty will notify admitted candidates in writing of the exact enrollment date.
WARNING! If you do not attend enrollment, you are deemed to have withdrawn from enrollment, and your place may be offered as a vacant place in the second application round.
Help with completing the enrollment documents:
Students may enroll in a subsequent year if they have fulfilled the obligations set by the study program. Instructions for regular enrollment in a subsequent year can be found here.
A student who has not fulfilled all obligations required for progression to a subsequent year may, at their request, exceptionally be granted enrollment in a subsequent year by the MFUM Committee for Study Affairs. Such enrollment may be granted to a student who was unable to fulfill the obligations for justified reasons and has completed the prescribed obligations of the previous years and obligations of more than 30 ECTS in the year in which they are enrolled, if it can be expected that they will fulfill the remaining obligations.
A student who has not completed all obligations for progression to a subsequent year in the same study program may repeat a year once during their higher education. Repeating a year is approved by the Committee for Study Affairs of the member faculty for a student who has:
In exceptional cases, the committee may also allow repeating a year for a student who has regularly participated in all forms of higher education work provided for in the study program and has completed obligations of less than 30 but not less than 15 ECTS in the year in which they are enrolled, if justified reasons have arisen which, under the Statute, allow the extension of student status.
The UM Statute – UPB 14 and Criteria for Assessing Student Requests and Justified Reasons in accordance with Articles 85, 121 and 214 of the UM Statute stipulate that the procedure for exceptional enrollment in a subsequent year, repeat enrollment and extension of the additional year before graduation (ABS) begins with the student's written request. The request must be submitted on the form “Request to the CSA”. The request must also be accompanied by the documentation required in the Criteria for Assessing Student Requests for the individual case, and by proof of payment of the fee for issuing the decision/ruling.
While repeating a year, the student completes only the missing obligations they did not complete in the current year, except in the case of a major change to the study program. In this case, on repeat enrollment, the student is assigned new obligations of the current year (possibly also retroactively) in accordance with the valid curriculum of the cohort with which they will graduate.
Instructions for exceptional enrollment or repeat enrollment – for the 2024/25 academic year.
After a break in studies, to enroll in a subsequent year the student must meet the enrollment requirements that apply to the year of study and academic year in which they are enrolling.
In the case of major changes to the study program, the student must already during the break in studies complete any changed or new obligations in accordance with the amended study program, since enrollment in a subsequent year requires meeting the requirements that apply to the cohort with which they are enrolling. To have the changed or new obligations determined, the student submits an application to the Committee for Study Affairs (CSA), before the start of the academic year, i.e. the year in which they will complete the obligations; delivery of the course with the exam is charged in accordance with the applicable price list of the University of Maribor.
The deadline for submitting applications to the CSA MF UM for the 2024/25 academic year is August 22, 2024 or September 6, 2024. The application must be accompanied by proof of payment of the fee for issuing the decision/ruling, in accordance with the applicable price list of the University of Maribor.
During the break, the student may also take all exams they have not yet passed in their studies so far. Exams already passed that no longer exist in a possibly amended study program (in which they will enroll after the break) are recognized as additionally completed courses after enrollment in the subsequent year.
If a student does not meet the valid requirements for enrollment in a subsequent year, they may, on the basis of justified reasons, submit an application for exceptional enrollment in a subsequent year to the Committee for Study Affairs, in accordance with the instructions in the section “Instructions for exceptional enrollment and repeat enrollment”.
For extending student services during a break in studies, read the instructions at this link, in the section “Študenti brez statusa študenta - podaljšanje veljavnosti študentskih storitev” (students without student status – extending the validity of student services).

The complete collection of rules relevant to students can be found in the UM document center.
Some students face special circumstances or burdens that prevent or hinder their full and effective inclusion and participation in the study process. To acquire the necessary knowledge and competences and to complete their studies successfully, such students are entitled to adapted conditions of study.
In accordance with the Statute of the University of Maribor and the Rules on Students with Special Status, the University of Maribor recognizes the following types or categories of students with special status:
The application for special status for students with disabilities or the application for special status for other categories is generally submitted by the student upon enrollment in the first year, a subsequent year or the additional year before graduation for the current academic year, at the MFUM Secretariat, Taborska 8, Maribor. With the application for special status, the student encloses appropriate evidence depending on the type of special status requested. In accordance with the MFUM Senate decision of October 20, 2014, the evidence enclosed with the application may not be older than one year. The application must also be accompanied by proof of payment of the fee for issuing the decision, which the student pays in accordance with the payment instructions.
The coordinator for students with athlete/coach status is Petra Mohorko (email: petra.mohorko@um.si; tel.: 02 23 45 881).
Exam dates for the current academic year are published on the website of the Academic Information Subsystem (AIPS) of the University of Maribor. In accordance with the Rules on Knowledge Testing and Assessment at UM and its amendments, the list of exam dates for the entire academic year is published by November 15 of the current academic year at the latest.
If a student did not take an exam for a justifiable reason and did not deregister in time, the exam is considered to have been deregistered in time, if, within 3 working days after the exam date, the student delivers appropriate written evidence to the office (medical certificate, accident, etc.). The administrative staff decide on the adequacy of the evidence within 3 days.
A student who, without a justifiable reason, does not attend the exam on the day set for them, or does not deregister in time, may take the exam only at the second following exam date.

Please kindly observe the above.
A student may complete the prescribed study obligations and exams in course units of a higher year once they have completed all obligations of the current year (60 ECTS credits), with the prior consent of the course unit coordinator, if the material and organizational conditions permit. The student obtains a certificate from the Academic Affairs Office confirming that they have completed their obligations to date. The student delivers the certificate to the course coordinator, who, on the basis of this certificate, may sign the consent to take on obligations of a higher year. The signed consent must be delivered to the MFUM Student Affairs Office before the start of the semester in which the higher-year course is taught, where the individual obligation is assigned in AIPS.
In accordance with Article 27 of the Rules on Knowledge Testing and Assessment at UM (UPB1), before completing their studies a student has the right to retake the exam in all course units already passed if they wish to improve the grade in a particular course unit. An individual exam may be retaken once, as an exam before a committee. If the student obtains a lower grade when retaking, the original, i.e. higher, grade stands. To improve a grade, students register using the grade improvement registration form, which they submit to the MFUM Student Affairs Office no later than 6 days before the exam date. The deadline for deregistering from the exam is no later than 4 days before the exam. In this case, deregistration is possible via the AIPS system.
By agreement with the course unit coordinator or teacher, the last exam of the study program before graduation or before completion of studies may be taken outside the scheduled exam dates. In this case, the student obtains a certificate of the last exam from the office, on the basis of which they agree with the course coordinator on taking the exam. If the student fails the last exam arranged in this way, they must register for a scheduled exam date for the next attempt.
Article 27 of the Rules on Knowledge Testing and Assessment at the University of Maribor No. A4/2009-41 AG, concerning grade improvement in individual course units, stipulates that before completing their studies a student has the right to retake the exam in all course units already passed if they wish to improve the grade in a particular course unit.
For study programs that end with a thesis, completion of studies means the thesis, whereas for undergraduate study programs that end without a final thesis, studies are completed with the last completed obligation (exam).
A student therefore cannot improve the grade of the last course unit (exam), which is comparable to not being able to improve the grade of the thesis, but may lodge an objection against the grade obtained in the last course unit (exam), in this case, however, immediately or at the latest before the expiry of the deadline set for verifying the data on completion of studies in the official records.
The above also applies when a student wishes to improve the grade in a course unit already passed before the last completed obligation, if they complete the last obligation before the exam date for the course unit in which they wish to improve the grade is announced.
Students' rights must be equal, regardless of whether they complete their studies with a thesis or with the last completed obligation (exam).
The above also applies if the student registered for grade improvement before completing the last obligation, if the exam date for the improvement falls after the date on which the last obligation was completed. A student therefore cannot improve a grade at or after the last completed course unit (exam), which is comparable to not being able to improve a grade at or after the thesis.
Students of undergraduate study programs who complete their studies without preparing and defending a thesis complete the study program when they have successfully fulfilled all obligations prescribed by the study program.
In this case, the student submits to the MFUM Secretariat, Taborska 8, Maribor, the Application for confirmation of completed undergraduate studies. The application must be accompanied by a certificate from the MFUM Library confirming that all obligations have been settled and a certificate confirming the return of the locker key, which the student obtains from the MFUM information desk.
If the student also wishes to have additional information entered in the Diploma Supplement, they must complete the Application for entering additional study-related information about the student and submit it together with the application for confirmation of completed undergraduate studies. Copies of supporting documents must also be enclosed with the application. The MFUM Senate decision on what is considered the student's additional achievements during their studies can be found here (the decision applies from October 1, 2015 onwards). The same certificate may be used only once for entry in the Diploma Supplement if it concerns a practical placement abroad and the exchange period does not exceed the compulsory weeks of practical training at MF UM (decision).
On the basis of a prior system notification from the electronic records, the Student Affairs Office enables the student to complete the Study Satisfaction Survey in AIPS. Once the student has completed the survey, the application or notification from the electronic records on all obligations completed by the student is forwarded to the dean of the member faculty. Within 5 working days of receiving the application or notification from the office, the dean of the member faculty issues a decision on the successful completion of undergraduate studies, which is the basis for issuing the certificate of graduation.
The certificate of graduation replaces the diploma until the diplomas are awarded. Instructions of the Medical Chamber of Slovenia regarding internship.
If a student has active student status in the year in which they graduate, after graduating from the integrated master's study program in General Medicine they retain student status until September 30 of the current academic year, in accordance with Article 70 of the Higher Education Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 32/12 – official consolidated text, 40/12 – ZUJF, 57/12 – ZPCP-2D, 109/12, 85/14, 75/16, 61/17 – ZUPŠ and 65/17).
A student may renounce their status after graduation at any time by submitting a request to renounce status at MF UM to the Student Affairs Office.
Candidates are required to comply with the Instructions on Contributions and Cost Evaluation at the University of Maribor upon enrollment in undergraduate and postgraduate study programs at the University of Maribor and pay tuition fees, enrollment costs and/or other study contributions for publicly accredited study programs, as approved by the Governing Board of the University of Maribor and set out in the price list of services for the following academic year.
Invoices are issued after the service has been provided (enrollment, exam, exam before a committee, etc.) and are sent to students' home addresses.
Students pay in advance only the fee for issuing a decision of the MFUM Committee for Study Affairs, using the following details:
General terms of payment of tuition fees and other study contributions at the University of Maribor

The student delivers to the MFUM Student Affairs Office the completed form Statement on a lost student ID card and a photograph measuring 3.5 x 4.5 cm (in color, as for a new identity card).
The student ID card is produced within two to three weeks. The cost of issuing a duplicate student ID card is charged after the service has been provided; the student receives the payment order at their home address.
Exam results are published on the website AIPS. Students access their results with their AIPS username and password.
Repeating a year is approved by the Committee for Study Affairs of the member faculty for a student who has:
In exceptional cases, the committee may also allow repeating a year for a student who has regularly participated in all forms of higher education work provided for in the study program and has completed obligations of less than 30 but not less than 15 ECTS in the year in which they are enrolled, if justified reasons have arisen which, under this Statute, allow the extension of student status.
Students who have fulfilled all obligations set by the study program progress to the next year:
Exceptional progression:
A student who has not fulfilled all obligations required for progression to a subsequent year may, at their request, exceptionally be granted enrollment in a subsequent year by the committee for study affairs of the member faculty. Such enrollment may be granted to a student who was unable to fulfill the obligations for justified reasons and has completed the prescribed obligations of the previous years and obligations of more than 30 ECTS in the year in which they are enrolled, if it can be expected that they will fulfill the remaining obligations. Among the obligations set as a condition for progression to a subsequent year, the member faculty may specify in the study program obligations without which exceptional progression is not possible, even if the student has earned more than 30 ECTS, but fewer ECTS than required for progression under the first paragraph of Article 85 of the Statute of the University of Maribor.
If a student does not enroll in the current academic year, they lose access to the student services provided through AIPS.
If you wish to use them during your break in studies, you must deliver to the MF office the application for extending student services for students without status and the original signed statement on the protection of personal data of students without student status in accordance with the GDPR.
Upon receipt of the application, the validity of your services will be extended until October 15 of the following academic year. “I completed part of my studies on an Erasmus exchange in Split, followed by an Erasmus traineeship in Vienna. Both experiences gave me the chance to explore the cities in depth, meet new people and form friendships that will last a lifetime. On the clinical wards, I saw procedures that are performed less often at home, and a longer placement in ophthalmology confirmed my wish to specialize in the field.
I also tried my hand at research, which further broadened my professional perspective. The exchanges helped me grow both personally and professionally: I became more independent and open-minded, improved my foreign language skills and felt even more confident about my career path.
It is an experience every medical student should have.”
“My exchange at the medical university in Innsbruck was truly unforgettable. Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, is a beautiful, vibrant student city surrounded by mountains. At the start, we were welcomed with a reception where I quickly got to know the other Erasmus students. I completed my 4th year there, attended the useful Sono4u ultrasound course and took additional placements in gynecology, plastic surgery and ENT, gaining valuable practical experience. The professors were friendly and approachable, and the faculty also offered a year-long German course; I recommend having at least B1-level German before going on exchange. The city itself is perfect for skiing, cycling, running and climbing, and is also known for having one of Europe's largest climbing walls. I will certainly be happy to return to Innsbruck, as it has become my second home.
The Erasmus Student Network organized trips to Salzburg, Vienna, Verona and Neuschwanstein, as well as numerous sporting events.”
“When I went on Erasmus in my 5th year, I had no idea how much six months in Graz would change me. I wanted to see how medicine is practiced elsewhere, improve my German and step outside my routine, but I gained so much more: new friends, a wealth of knowledge and unforgettable moments.
The first few days were more difficult: I felt like a first-year student in a white coat. The hospital was huge, everyone spoke quickly, and I struggled to catch every word. But the students and supervisors were incredibly friendly, so I soon joined ward rounds and procedures and learned a great deal in practice. Medical German seemed daunting at first, but practice was the best teacher, and after a few weeks I was communicating confidently.
The best part was meeting students from all over the world. We cooked, studied and explored Graz together. The exchange taught me things I would never have experienced at home. I became more independent, confident and open-minded.
If you are thinking about Erasmus, go for it. It will not always be easy, but it will always be worth it. ”
