Accessibility statement

/

The University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine, is committed to making its website accessible to all users in accordance with the Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications Act (ZDSMA). This accessibility statement applies to the website of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Maribor, available at https://mf.um.si.

Compliance status

The web pages and content have been prepared in accordance with international web content accessibility guidelines and conform to the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 standard. The accessibility of the website of the University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine, conforms to WCAG at level AA.

To meet the accessibility requirements, the following adjustments have been implemented across the website:

  • keyboard operation of the website: moving between elements with the Tab key, a visible indicator of the currently selected element (focus), and operating accordions, tabs and filters without a mouse,
  • a location indicator (breadcrumbs) on all subpages,
  • structured text with headings, paragraphs and lists,
  • color contrast between text and background that meets at least level AA of WCAG 2.1,
  • responsive design: content adapts to the screen width without loss of information or horizontal scrolling, and zooming is supported,
  • alternative text for images,
  • links to documents with descriptions for screen readers; links without a target are not displayed,
  • documents and external links open in a new tab so that users do not lose their place on the website.

This website is partially compliant with the Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications Act due to the exceptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

We continuously monitor the accessibility of the website and improve individual elements on an ongoing basis. Nevertheless, due to disproportionate burden, some published content does not meet all accessibility requirements for users with various disabilities. Examples of such content include:

  • older PDF and Word documents, including scanned documents (calls, regulations, attachments, lists of award recipients from previous years),
  • graphic elements with text as images (e.g. infographics, logos),
  • complex data tables (e.g. bibliographic overviews),
  • some videos without subtitles published in external archives.

Non-accessible content is present because of the disproportionate burden, assessed in terms of the staff and financial resources that adapting the extensive document archive would require. New documents are published in an accessible format; content that was previously available only in PDF documents (e.g. lists of award and prize recipients) is gradually being moved directly onto web pages in an accessible format. Although the disproportionate burden exception is invoked for certain archival material, the University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine, ensures that all key content relating to the provision of administrative services is available in an accessible format directly on the website wherever possible, in accordance with the fourth paragraph of Article 6 of the ZDSMA.

Sign language

Content relating to the provision of administrative services is not yet fully available in Slovenian Sign Language. The University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine, will gradually adapt this content accordingly.

Reasons for non-accessibility: Content on the enrollment procedure is updated regularly in line with changes to study programs and calls for enrollment. Because it is technically demanding to produce high-quality recordings that must keep pace with the annual changes to the call, this content has not yet been fully published. The University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine, will prepare a systematic solution for gradually introducing video content with a Slovenian Sign Language interpreter.

Alternatives: Users who need information in sign language can contact us by email at mf@um.si, and we will provide interpreting or personal advice on request in accordance with the Act on the Use of Slovenian Sign Language (ZUSZJ).

“I completed part of my studies on an Erasmus exchange in Split, followed by an Erasmus traineeship in Vienna. Both experiences gave me the chance to explore the cities in depth, meet new people and form friendships that will last a lifetime. On the clinical wards, I saw procedures that are performed less often at home, and a longer placement in ophthalmology confirmed my wish to specialize in the field.

I also tried my hand at research, which further broadened my professional perspective. The exchanges helped me grow both personally and professionally: I became more independent and open-minded, improved my foreign language skills and felt even more confident about my career path.

It is an experience every medical student should have.”

“My exchange at the medical university in Innsbruck was truly unforgettable. Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, is a beautiful, vibrant student city surrounded by mountains. At the start, we were welcomed with a reception where I quickly got to know the other Erasmus students. I completed my 4th year there, attended the useful Sono4u ultrasound course and took additional placements in gynecology, plastic surgery and ENT, gaining valuable practical experience. The professors were friendly and approachable, and the faculty also offered a year-long German course; I recommend having at least B1-level German before going on exchange. The city itself is perfect for skiing, cycling, running and climbing, and is also known for having one of Europe's largest climbing walls. I will certainly be happy to return to Innsbruck, as it has become my second home.

The Erasmus Student Network organized trips to Salzburg, Vienna, Verona and Neuschwanstein, as well as numerous sporting events.”

“When I went on Erasmus in my 5th year, I had no idea how much six months in Graz would change me. I wanted to see how medicine is practiced elsewhere, improve my German and step outside my routine, but I gained so much more: new friends, a wealth of knowledge and unforgettable moments.

The first few days were more difficult: I felt like a first-year student in a white coat. The hospital was huge, everyone spoke quickly, and I struggled to catch every word. But the students and supervisors were incredibly friendly, so I soon joined ward rounds and procedures and learned a great deal in practice. Medical German seemed daunting at first, but practice was the best teacher, and after a few weeks I was communicating confidently.

The best part was meeting students from all over the world. We cooked, studied and explored Graz together. The exchange taught me things I would never have experienced at home. I became more independent, confident and open-minded.

If you are thinking about Erasmus, go for it. It will not always be easy, but it will always be worth it. ”
