Other

A student who has not fulfilled all the obligations required for progression to a subsequent year may, at their request, be exceptionally allowed to enroll in a subsequent year by the Committee for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Medicine (hereinafter: KŠZ MF). Such enrollment may be approved for a student who was unable to fulfill the obligations for justified reasons, has completed the prescribed obligations of the previous years and obligations worth more than 30 ECTS of the year in which they are enrolled, and can be expected to fulfill the remaining obligations. The progression requirements are published on the MF UM website.

The committee may, by way of exception, also allow a student to repeat a year if the student has regularly participated in all forms of higher education work provided for by the study program and has completed obligations worth less than 30 but not less than 15 ECTS of the year in which they are enrolled, provided there are justified reasons which, under the UM Statute and the Criteria for Assessing Student Requests and Justified Reasons in accordance with Articles 85, 121 and 212 of the UM Statute, allow the extension of student status (repeating a year).

In both cases, the procedure begins with the student's written request. The request must be submitted on the form Request to the KŠZ, together with the attachments required in the Criteria for Assessing Student Requests for the case in question.

The fee for processing a request by the Committee for Academic Affairs is EUR 18.10. After you submit your request to the KŠZ MF UM, an invoice will be sent to you by post, so do not pay anything in advance. The Committee for Academic Affairs of MF UM will consider ONLY COMPLETE requests with all the relevant attachments. You may send your request by post, addressed to the Committee for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Medicine UM, Taborska 8, 2000 Maribor, or submit it in person at the Secretariat of the Faculty of Medicine UM (EXCLUSIVELY during the Secretariat's office hours, every working day from 8:00 to 10:00 and from 12:00 to 14:00).

The request must be submitted on the Request to the KŠZ form, together with the attachments required in the
Criteria for Assessing Student Requests for the case in question.

Planned meeting dates of the Committee for Academic Affairs of MF UM and deadlines for submitting documents:

  • August 27, 2026 (deadline for applications: August 20, 2026, 10 a.m.)
  • September 15, 2026 (deadline for applications: September 7, 2026, 10 a.m.)

If the KŠZ MF does not grant a student's request for progression to a subsequent year, the student cannot automatically re-enroll in the same year, even if they have not yet used their right to repeat a year, unless they explicitly request this. For this reason, item 9 of the request form provides for a subsidiary request: “Podredno vlagam prošnjo za ponovni vpis, če prošnja za izjemni vpis ne bo odobrena” (I hereby also submit a subsidiary request for repeat enrollment should the request for exceptional enrollment not be approved). Anyone choosing this option must circle item number 9. The results of the Committee for Academic Affairs will be published no later than two working days after the KŠZ meeting. KŠZ MF decisions on exceptional/repeat enrollment will be served on students in accordance with the rules of administrative procedure.

Approval by the KŠZ MF does not mean automatic enrollment!

After the KŠZ MF results are published on the e-noticeboard, you must complete e-enrollment by September 20, 2026 at the latest and deliver the required enrollment documents to the MF UM Academic and Student Affairs Office by September 21, 2026, 10:00 a.m., regardless of the delivery method!

DO NOT FORGET

The last day for e-enrollment is September 20, 2026; after this date, e-enrollment will be closed.

If you are a student without student status and have fulfilled all the requirements for enrollment in a subsequent year, you must, before enrolling, ask the MF UM Academic and Student Affairs Office by email at referat.mf@um.si to enable your electronic enrollment. If the study program has changed in the meantime, you must submit to the KŠZ MF UM, in August before the start of the academic year, an application to continue your studies.

If students have interrupted their studies and the study program in which they were enrolled was changed during the interruption, the obligations they have completed that correspond to the learning outcomes of the changed program may be recognized, and they may be allowed to continue or complete their studies with a new cohort, provided that additional obligations are set for them in such scope and content that they achieve the learning outcomes required by the changed study program. Students who continue their studies are subject to the study conditions that apply to the new cohort they join.

Individuals whose student status ended after they completed the final year of study, who have not withdrawn and who wish to complete their studies retain the right to take exams and fulfill other study obligations under the study program in which they are studying for two years after their last enrollment in the final year.

DO NOT FORGET

The last day for e-enrollment is September 20, 2026; after this date, e-enrollment will be closed.

Student status ends in the cases laid down by higher education legislation, except for third-cycle students, whose student status in third-cycle studies ends if they do not complete the study program within 12 months after the end of the last semester.

Student status may be extended by one year, during studies or at the end of studies, for students in parallel studies, students with special status and students who have other justified reasons (illness lasting at least three months during the lecture period or one month during the examination periods, study abroad, active work in the bodies of the university or of a university member, or other long-lasting exceptional circumstances that prevented the student from taking part in the study process for an extended period).

Students who give birth during their studies and students who become fathers during their studies are entitled to an extension of student status by one year for each child born.

The extension of student status is decided by the competent committee of the faculty Senate on the basis of the student's request.
Persons whose student status ends retain the right to take exams and fulfill other study obligations under the study program in which they are studying.

Students wishing to extend their student status for justified reasons listed in Article 214 of the UM Statute must also submit a request to the Committee for Academic Affairs of MF UM.

Recognition of prior knowledge and skills is carried out in accordance with the Rules on the Recognition of Knowledge and Skills in UM Study Programs No. 012-2019-2. Under these rules, candidates may be granted recognition of:

  1. knowledge and skills already acquired and assessed in credits in other study programs (at the same level of education) that candidates obtained at educational and higher education institutions,
  2. knowledge and skills acquired through various formal programs and non-formal learning activities,
  3. knowledge and skills acquired through work, self-directed learning or informal learning.

The procedure for identifying, assessing and recognizing knowledge and skills starts when the candidate submits an application with the relevant attachments or supporting documents, addressed to: Committee for Academic Affairs of MF UM, Taborska 8, 2000 Maribor, by August 20 of the current academic year at the latest.

The costs of the procedure for identifying, assessing and recognizing knowledge and skills / of the procedure for recognizing and validating study obligations are paid by candidates in accordance with the tariff section of the UM Price List.

Under the Act Amending the Higher Education Act (ZViS-M; Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 102/2023), since the 2024/2025 academic year the University of Maribor has allowed students who withdrew from a study program in previous years to re-enroll in the same study program; in accordance with the statutory provisions, they are charged tuition in line with the Instructions on Contributions and Cost Valuation at UM No. 012/N 2/2023/412-SF (Article 4). The procedure for re-enrollment after withdrawal begins when the candidate submits an application for re-enrollment after withdrawal to the competent student affairs office of the faculty on the form, which forms an integral part of these implementing instructions. The application is considered by the competent committee, which decides on re-enrollment after withdrawal; if the study program or track has changed, it conducts the procedure for recognizing the candidate's completed obligations and determines any additional obligations and the year of study in which the candidate may enroll. The deadline for applications is August 20, 2026.

Upon enrollment, a tuition payment contract is concluded with the candidate.

“I completed part of my studies on an Erasmus exchange in Split, followed by an Erasmus traineeship in Vienna. Both experiences gave me the chance to explore the cities in depth, meet new people and form friendships that will last a lifetime. On the clinical wards, I saw procedures that are performed less often at home, and a longer placement in ophthalmology confirmed my wish to specialize in the field.

I also tried my hand at research, which further broadened my professional perspective. The exchanges helped me grow both personally and professionally: I became more independent and open-minded, improved my foreign language skills and felt even more confident about my career path.

It is an experience every medical student should have.”

“My exchange at the medical university in Innsbruck was truly unforgettable. Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, is a beautiful, vibrant student city surrounded by mountains. At the start, we were welcomed with a reception where I quickly got to know the other Erasmus students. I completed my 4th year there, attended the useful Sono4u ultrasound course and took additional placements in gynecology, plastic surgery and ENT, gaining valuable practical experience. The professors were friendly and approachable, and the faculty also offered a year-long German course; I recommend having at least B1-level German before going on exchange. The city itself is perfect for skiing, cycling, running and climbing, and is also known for having one of Europe's largest climbing walls. I will certainly be happy to return to Innsbruck, as it has become my second home.

The Erasmus Student Network organized trips to Salzburg, Vienna, Verona and Neuschwanstein, as well as numerous sporting events.”

“When I went on Erasmus in my 5th year, I had no idea how much six months in Graz would change me. I wanted to see how medicine is practiced elsewhere, improve my German and step outside my routine, but I gained so much more: new friends, a wealth of knowledge and unforgettable moments.

The first few days were more difficult: I felt like a first-year student in a white coat. The hospital was huge, everyone spoke quickly, and I struggled to catch every word. But the students and supervisors were incredibly friendly, so I soon joined ward rounds and procedures and learned a great deal in practice. Medical German seemed daunting at first, but practice was the best teacher, and after a few weeks I was communicating confidently.

The best part was meeting students from all over the world. We cooked, studied and explored Graz together. The exchange taught me things I would never have experienced at home. I became more independent, confident and open-minded.

If you are thinking about Erasmus, go for it. It will not always be easy, but it will always be worth it. ”
