Under the transfer criteria, candidates may enroll in the 2nd year of the 3rd-cycle study program in Biomedical Technology if they have completed:

  • a study program leading to a Master of Science degree in biomedicine or related fields adopted before June 11, 2004; such candidates are credited with 60 ECTS on enrollment.
  • a university study program adopted before June 11, 2004 and a study program leading to a specialization in biomedicine or related fields; such candidates are credited with 60 ECTS on enrollment.

Transfer to the 3rd-cycle doctoral study program in Biomedical Technology is possible from 3rd-cycle study programs in biomedicine and related fields. The following criteria apply:

  • meeting the admission requirements and
  • a sufficient number of available places.

The study obligations the student has already completed and that can be recognized are determined; the candidate must therefore submit a description of the course content, a certificate of the obligations completed in the previous program and an official transcript from the previous study program. The Committee for Study Affairs will examine the student's application individually and determine the obligations they must complete to finish doctoral studies in the new program.

.

for students enrolling from 2020/21

Under the Criteria for Transfers between Study Programs, candidates are enrolled:

  • in the second or a higher year of the doctoral study program in Biomedical Technology, 3rd cycle, where they discontinue studies in a first study program in biomedicine or related fields and continue their studies in this study program of the same cycle,
  • anyone who has completed the following may enroll in the second year of the 3rd-cycle study program in Biomedical Technology:
    • a study program leading to a Master of Science degree in biomedicine or related fields adopted before June 11, 2004, or
    • a study program leading to a university degree adopted before June 11, 2004 and a study program leading to a specialization in biomedicine or related fields.

Transfer is possible if the candidate meets the following conditions:

  • meets the requirements for enrollment in the first year (doctoral study program in Biomedical Technology, 3rd cycle),
  • is transferring from a study program that, on completion, provides comparable competencies or learning outcomes,
  • has at least half of the obligations under the European Credit Transfer System (hereinafter: ECTS) from the first study program that relate to the compulsory courses of the doctoral study program in Biomedical Technology, 3rd cycle, recognized on transfer.

  • the candidate meets the requirements for enrollment in the third-cycle study program in Biomedical Technology,
  • in the procedure for recognizing prior knowledge and skills, the candidate is credited with enough of the relevant study obligations to meet, under the program's progression requirements, the requirements for enrollment in the second or a higher year of the third-cycle study program in Biomedical Technology.

The criteria for ranking candidates for enrollment under the conditions for transfers between study programs are those set out in the selection criteria for restricted enrollment in the third-cycle study program in Biomedical Technology.

With the application submitted via the eVŠ portal, candidates must enclose:

  • an application for the recognition of prior knowledge and skills,
  • a certificate of completed study obligations with the grades obtained and the number of credits (ECTS),
  • certified syllabi of the course units through which the candidate acquired the prior knowledge, and
  • proof of payment for the procedure for identifying and recognizing knowledge and skills in accordance with the current price list of the University of Maribor.

Applications are considered by the competent body of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Maribor, in accordance with the procedure governing the recognition of knowledge and skills acquired before enrollment in a study program at the University of Maribor. By decision, the competent body of the Faculty of Medicine that decides on the recognition of previously acquired knowledge and skills determines the recognized course units or study obligations in the study program in which the candidate is enrolling, the year of study in which they may enroll, and any missing study obligations they must complete to finish their studies.

To complete their studies successfully, candidates must write and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation and fulfill all other obligations provided for by the study program, thereby earning at least 180 ECTS. “I completed part of my studies on an Erasmus exchange in Split, followed by an Erasmus traineeship in Vienna. Both experiences gave me the chance to explore the cities in depth, meet new people and form friendships that will last a lifetime. On the clinical wards, I saw procedures that are performed less often at home, and a longer placement in ophthalmology confirmed my wish to specialize in the field.

I also tried my hand at research, which further broadened my professional perspective. The exchanges helped me grow both personally and professionally: I became more independent and open-minded, improved my foreign language skills and felt even more confident about my career path.

It is an experience every medical student should have.”

“My exchange at the medical university in Innsbruck was truly unforgettable. Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, is a beautiful, vibrant student city surrounded by mountains. At the start, we were welcomed with a reception where I quickly got to know the other Erasmus students. I completed my 4th year there, attended the useful Sono4u ultrasound course and took additional placements in gynecology, plastic surgery and ENT, gaining valuable practical experience. The professors were friendly and approachable, and the faculty also offered a year-long German course; I recommend having at least B1-level German before going on exchange. The city itself is perfect for skiing, cycling, running and climbing, and is also known for having one of Europe's largest climbing walls. I will certainly be happy to return to Innsbruck, as it has become my second home.

The Erasmus Student Network organized trips to Salzburg, Vienna, Verona and Neuschwanstein, as well as numerous sporting events.”

“When I went on Erasmus in my 5th year, I had no idea how much six months in Graz would change me. I wanted to see how medicine is practiced elsewhere, improve my German and step outside my routine, but I gained so much more: new friends, a wealth of knowledge and unforgettable moments.

The first few days were more difficult: I felt like a first-year student in a white coat. The hospital was huge, everyone spoke quickly, and I struggled to catch every word. But the students and supervisors were incredibly friendly, so I soon joined ward rounds and procedures and learned a great deal in practice. Medical German seemed daunting at first, but practice was the best teacher, and after a few weeks I was communicating confidently.

The best part was meeting students from all over the world. We cooked, studied and explored Graz together. The exchange taught me things I would never have experienced at home. I became more independent, confident and open-minded.

If you are thinking about Erasmus, go for it. It will not always be easy, but it will always be worth it. ”
