Erasmus+ student mobility

The EU program for education and mobility 2021–2027 — your path to study or a traineeship abroad with EU financial support.
/
about the program

Gain experience that goes beyond borders

Erasmus+ lets you complete part of your regular study obligations at a partner institution abroad instead of at MF UM — at any level of study. The program covers study, traineeships and blended intensive programs (BIP).

Program countries are all EU member states plus the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Türkiye, North Macedonia and Serbia. In total, up to 24 months of mobility are available in the integrated master's program.

Application deadline
requirements and duration

Who can apply?

The call is open to students who meet the two basic conditions for Erasmus+ student status set by the Erasmus+ program

Active status

Active status at the home faculty of UM is required for the entire exchange period.

Mobility limit
The total (study + traineeship + BIP) must not exceed the maximum duration of Erasmus+ mobility.

Under the Erasmus+ program, students can take part in mobility of up to 12 months in total at each level of study and may take part in study and/or traineeships more than once. For students in integrated master's study programs at the Faculty of Medicine, UM, this means they can receive a grant for a total of 24 months of exchange.

Under a decision of the Senate of the University of Maribor, to be awarded a grant for study abroad students must earn at least:

  • 10 ECTS per trimester (3 months),
  • 20 ECTS per semester (6 months) and
  • 40 ECTS per academic year (12 months).

A proportional share of the ECTS earned is taken into account according to the length of study.

⚠ Note: ECTS credit values

When the OLA is submitted, the total ECTS according to MF UM credit values must be at least 50 (full year) or 30 (one semester). Differences in credit values between institutions are taken into account.

Where can you go?

Students can apply for student mobility to partner institutions of the Faculty of Medicine, UM, with which we have signed an inter-institutional agreement.

application procedure

Application and internal selection criteria

Application deadline at MF UM: March 15, 2026

The student sends or submits to the Secretariat of the Faculty of Medicine, UM:

01
Printed and signed OLA (Online Learning Agreement)

Compile it in the OLA online tool. When filling it in, use the OLA Completion Guide.

If the partner institution does not yet use the OLA online tool, fill in the paper form Learning Agreement – Student Mobility for Studies.

02
Course coordinator's consent — for each course separately

For each course you will take abroad instead of at MF UM, you must submit a completed form signed by the course coordinator: Course coordinator's consent for study abroad.

By signing, the coordinator confirms: (1) that they have reviewed the syllabus of the course abroad, (2) that the content is comparable to the content at MF UM, (3) that the course will be recognized as completed without additional obligations. If the coordinator has additional requirements for recognition, they add them to the form under point b).

A separate form must be attached for each course! If you have trouble finding syllabi on the partner institution's website, contact the Erasmus coordinator at the partner institution.

⚠ Note: Selection criteria if more candidates apply to a partner institution than there are places available

If there are more applications than places offered at a partner institution, priority is given to candidates enrolled in a higher year of study. If several candidates are from the same year, priority is given to those with the higher average grade on March 17, 2026 (transcript of grades from AIPS). If several candidates have the same average grade, the final selection is made by the MF UM Committee for International Cooperation after the internal application deadline.

The selection of candidates for study abroad in 2026/27 will be published on the e-noticeboard of the Faculty of Medicine, UM by March 27, 2026 at the latest; the deadline for the electronic application for Erasmus+ study is March 30, 2026.

03

After applications are processed

Partner institutions send accepted students letters of acceptance and confirm the Learning Agreement.

04

OLS language assessment

Students taking part in an E+ exchange must, under the program rules, complete an online language assessment before or at the start of the mobility (OLS online tool).

during the exchange

While studying abroad

If, before or during the study period abroad, a student finds that they will not be able to take some courses from the Learning Agreement or would like to change the Learning Agreement in any way, they can make the change in OLA or with the form Learning Agreement for Studies – During the mobility. For detailed information, contact the MF UM Erasmus coordinator.

Blended intensive programs

Blended intensive programs (BIP) are programs that use innovative ways of learning and teaching, including online cooperation.

The programs include challenge-based learning, in which international and interdisciplinary teams work together to tackle various challenges. The aim of blended intensive programs is to enable new and more flexible forms of student exchange that combine physical and virtual mobility.

The physical mobility must last at least 5 days and may last up to 30 days. The compulsory virtual component can take place before, during or after the physical part. For taking part in a BIP, students earn at least 3 ECTS credits. Students taking part in a BIP are entitled to financial support from the Erasmus+ program.

basic requirements

Who can apply?

The student must have active student status at their home faculty of the University of Maribor.

Two additional requirements apply:

The total duration of exchanges under the Erasmus+ program for integrated master's programs must not exceed 24 months.

The limit is four participations in blended intensive programs for students in integrated master's programs.

On the clinical wards, I saw procedures that are performed less often at home, and a longer placement in ophthalmology confirmed my wish to specialize in the field.

It is an experience every medical student should have.”

At the start, we were welcomed with a reception where I quickly got to know the other Erasmus students. I completed my 4th year there, attended the useful Sono4u ultrasound course and took additional placements in gynecology, plastic surgery and ENT, gaining valuable practical experience. The professors were friendly and approachable, and the faculty also offered a year-long German course; I recommend having at least B1-level German before going on exchange. The city itself is perfect for skiing, cycling, running and climbing, and is also known for having one of Europe's largest climbing walls. I will certainly be happy to return to Innsbruck, as it has become my second home.

The Erasmus Student Network organized trips to Salzburg, Vienna, Verona and Neuschwanstein, as well as numerous sporting events.”

The best part was meeting students from all over the world. We cooked, studied and explored Graz together. The exchange taught me things I would never have experienced at home. I became more independent, confident and open-minded.

If you are thinking about Erasmus, go for it. It will not always be easy, but it will always be worth it. ”
