Medicinska fakulteta Univerze v Mariboru

Dear medical students,

Do you want to study a semester abroad? Maybe you are interested in medical science but also want to have time to work on your own scientific project? If you catch yourself nodding to all these questions, we would like to introduce SEMERA, the “Semester for medical research Aachen”, to you.

What is SEMERA?

In short: It is a full semester held in English, which gives you the opportunity to develop scientific skills in the context of clinical and basic research and to apply them to your own research projects.

During the morning, you will have lessons including, for instance, project management, writing a paper, dealing with journals but also more practical aspects such as finding and applying for funding. Teaching methods vary from Journal Club and seminars to blended learning and study trips.

During the afternoon you have the opportunity to work on a research project of your choice, with individual mentors accordingly, either in a clinic, lab or institute.

Join our Social Program throughout the semester, build international relations, make friends, get to know the country and its people.

Where does SEMERA take place?

It is a new program at the RWTH Aachen University. Aachen is Germany’s westernmost major city bordering directly on the Netherlands and Belgium which makes it a diverse, multilingual region.

The RWTH Aachen has over 45,000 students and is part of the German government’s Excellence Program. About 12,000 people with an international background from more than 125 countries currently study, research, teach, and work at the RWTH.

Since 2003 the innovative Model degree program of Medicine links theory and practical skills from the very first semester which proved to be a very efficient and successful approach to medical education.
